What are some good natural antioxidants?

What are antioxidants?

Antioxidants can be found in herbs, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals and help to protect the body from the production of free radicals inside the body.  Free radicals are the roving bands of electromagnetic fields that can cause lasting cell damage to the body's internal and external systems.

While the body does need sufficent levels of free radicals to maintain a healthy immune system, excess levels of these ravaging molecules can lead to the signs of prematue aqging such as wrinkled skin, joint deterioration, and muscular degeneration.

There are many supplements advertised as being chock full of free radical fighting antioxidants, but there are plenty of natural foods that are also high in antioxidant content.

These include blueberries, raspberries, carrots, tomatoes, and red & yellow peppers.

What are some of your favorite antioxidant-rich snacks?

Hey Barbara -

Pomegranates are great. One of the healthiest fruits around. High in sugar though, so I try to stay away from the juices as well.

Wish we could get fresh acai here in the States. I used to love grabbing a bowl at the local juice bar when I was in Australia.

Hey Crystal!

I love digging into a ripe pomegranate, seeds and all. Pay a fortune for the juices, like POM Wonderful and stuff, when the fruits themselves are relatively inexpensive when in season.
